I don't have a lot of faith in the generic horoscopes, but I think there is definitely something to the Astrological charts. I'll tell you what, my husband is definitely a Gemini, and I have five Virgo signs in my astro chart, and I'd call myself an extreme Virgo. LOL It's true, your Sun sign is not all there is to it. I've done some research into it: Your Sun sign is your basic nature and strategies favored in dealing with life situations (inner being), sense of self or essence or character deep down inside. Your Rising Sign is how you see yourself, how you appear to others on first impression & how you want to appear, not who you are, it is how you act, your image, style & mannerisms. Your Moon sign indicates your emotional level - feelings, fears, sense of security or safety. Check out this site to do your own for free: http://www.alabe.com/freechart/

Horoscopes/star signs
by HB ina friend who is an intelligent high-flying business woman is going through a relationship break-up and is also recovering from breast cancer.
she is not religious but has been turning to 'new-age' beliefs to try to help her cope, (she has visited a numerologist and had her palm read).
she has just sent me an email with a description of 12 different personalities based on star signs.

Steve Hassan's book...
by Mickey mouse in...i just finished reading it.
wow!
the only downside for me is that he talks a lot about how important it is to connect with the pre-cult personality.

Yes, try reading the Power of Now, or A New Earth. Find your REAL self NOW, separate from the cult.

Why I post about atheism
by nvrgnbk inoftentimes the accusation is made that there is some sort of conspiracy on jwd amongst the atheists to convert, humiliate, spit on, or otherwise degrade the believers.
it's been suggested that their tone is condescending and arrogant.. it's hinted at that they're angry and bitter about their own lives and want to take it out on god and his humble servants.. others think it's all just an excuse to lead what they judge to be a morally depraved life.. regardless of what we believe about god's existence or lack thereof, most rational adults understand that when we attempt to judge the motives of others we can miss by a mile.. so here's the reason i post about the topic of atheism.... i was born as one of jehovah's witnesses, fourth generation.
i was being indoctrinated with jehovah while i was still in the womb.

Atheism is the complete lack of faith.
Not true!!! Atheism is Faith that there is no God, and that it's OK, one is not required.

Email to JW wife...
by kzjw inthe battle rages on, i sent this letter to try to give support...what do you think?.
ok, i'm done with the _____thing...but i took the option to participate in going to the kh with you.
i making an effort, but at times you turn away from my questions and you'd never do that to a "book study".

kzjw, Does your wife have any doubts about the WTS at all? Are there any issues that have gone on in the Kingdom Hall, with Elders or other JW's? Has she seen any of the stuff that previous JW's have written in books? I'm looking for something you can build on.
BTW, my husband and I both became JWs and left the JWs at the same time. We were in it for 10 years.
I was the one that came across the information online about things that the WTS was doing....like the WTS having UN membership, the stuff about the JWs in Mexico that were told they could bribe the officials for their national membership cards while the JWs in Malawi were being killed because they refused to pay the tax that would provide them with a national identity card.....hence the "Crisis of Conscience" book written by Ray Franz. I also showed my husband some information from the book, "The Subtle Power of Spiritual Abuse" and the book "Combatting Cult Mind Control." Because of all the things my husband and I had seen and heard over the years, and the things I showed to him, we both left it....together, thank goodness!!!
Have you researched how the WTS is a cult? If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know, I'd be glad to help in any way possible.

KurtBethel visits Beth Sarim!
by kurtbethel insunday, may 18th was my big day.
i decided to go to beth sarim, home of the princes and ancient worthies.
so i loaded up the truck and rolled out, wondering what do you do when you meet someone so ancient that the roman empire was a mere twinkling in jehovah's eye.

ahh it would be awesome if we all pooled our money together and bought that house and turned it into some kind of cult awareness center
I second that!!!!

The End of Circuit Overseers
by scotsman inis indeed apparently nigh as another poster predicted along with the end of the weekly bs.
not sure when this should take place but i'm reliably informed by a family member that one of the uk's overseers was talking about it fairly recently.
reduced to weekend visits by an outside but local elder instead.. i have no further info..

******* Are you much healthier, now that you're out? *******
by FlyingHighNow inmuch, much healthier.
being a jw takes it's toll on people's physical and mental health.
jw's are always sick.

I am much healthier. I had been diagnosed with Grave's Disease (Hyperthyroid) which is an auto-immune disease. That's where your body attacks itself for an unknown reason. Huh, it mysteriously "went away" after I left the WTS. Imagine that!! For some reason, sitting around, waiting for the end of the world, for the majority of mankind to be killed, so that I could actually live a happy life made me SICK. Interesting!
When we got the new lab results that it was "gone," the doctor said, "stress can really do a number on you physically." I'm thinking, yeah, it sure can! I think of the WT as another full time job I used to work because of all the meetings, preparations, studying, etc. that I did. Thank you all for the part you played in helping me to find out what the bOrg really is.

Some of them, although very kind with good intentions, are not well-educated nor are they good speakers. They are not trained family/marriage counsellors,
nor do they have the skills to actually counsel in matters relating to depression and other mental and emotional concerns. Yet, they get shepherding
calls all the time from congregation members to minister to them regarding such things. The wrong advice or ill-timed admonition can
create all kinds of problems for a person in such a vulnerable state. This makes for a possible LEGAL CASE AGAINST them.
Yes, I think you're right here. They don't have a clue about what they're doing. I myself would like to make a movie about my experience with my snobby P.O. He was such a jerk, I ended up in tears, and the other "elder" and my husband were both blown away by what the P.O. had said. They didn't know what to do or say. So, the P.O. decided to say a closing prayer...meanwhile I'm sobbing during the whole thing. I've often thought about filing a case against those two. I can only be glad that it happened though, because it wasn't too much longer and we found out the truth about the "truth" and got the heck out of it.
Hey, I've been away for a while. I think I need an update. Where is the org right now? I heard that the bookstudy is no longer, it's part of the Sunday meeting now? That's about all I know. What happened to the public talk? Any other wonderful news??
BTW, I just loved that Circus Overseer comment.

I'm afraid I did "make the choice." Now, I just wish I would have reconsidered the whole, they have written their own Bible thing AND that they have been promising that this will happen and that will happen on certain dates and then....it didn't. LOL If I could go back, I'd research what a cult is and does. I'd be more careful.

Sunday's public talk...
by kzjw inwent with the wife this week for the public talk (i simply will not sit through the watchtower study), the subject was about how poorly governments are taking care of thier people in disasters.
the speaker(who had a british accent) started by saying "burma(myanmar) had 2 tsunamis and the government sent flat screen tv's as aid for the refugees..." needless to say this dillweed lost me for the next 30 minutes of his talk about how man can't care for god's people.
i left during the study as always and returned at the end of the meeting, still burning over the glaring lie told by this "brother" which by the way no one even batted an eye in the congregation!

"I think a lot of what is said from the platform is accepted as true and never questioned." milligal, Oh yeah, for sure....us poor lambs always do...or did, in my case. After 10 years of it, I am very upset about having been led by wolves. I noticed that psychologists offer "cult recovery" and I'm wondering how many people actually get any help after coming out of it. I think the Watchtower should have to pay for it for everyone that has come out. I hope someday!
